Rufus Reid

Sometimes called a chameleon, Rufus Reid is one of today’s premiere bassists on the international jazz scene. He has performed and recorded with some of the greatest names in Jazz. His musical prowess can be found perfectly comfortable in an array of performance settings. He has an impressive 250 recordings in his discography.
Rufus is equally known as an exceptional educator; teaching clinics and workshops all over the world. His book, THE EVOLVING BASSIST – MILLENNIUM EDITION, published in 1974, was re-released in 2000.
The International Society of Bassists presented him the Distinguished Achievement Award at the 2001 ISB Convention.
Rufus holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance on the Double Bass from Northwestern Univ. where he studied with Warren Benfield and principal bassist Joseph Guastefeste, both of the Chicago Symphony.
